Father's Day is Sunday, June 21. You've got five days. Skip the big-box gift card and skip the chain restaurant. South Jersey has everything you need to make this one actually memorable — and most of it is five minutes from your front door.

Let's be honest: most Father's Day plans follow the same script. Someone orders brunch, the kids fight over who gets to present the card first, and dad ends up watching golf by 2pm. Nothing wrong with that. But if you want to do something he'll actually talk about come July, South Jersey has some genuinely good options in every direction.

Here's what's worth your Sunday.

The best Father's Day plan is the one that actually sounds like him — not the one that sounds like a commercial.

Start with a real meal. Cherry Hill's Route 70 and 73 corridors are lined with dining options, but a few stand out for a Father's Day crowd. If dad's a steakhouse guy, The Chophouse in Gibbsboro is consistently one of the best in South Jersey — dark wood, thick cuts, no apologies. Book early; they fill up on Father's Day without exception.

If the family leans more casual, Landmark Americana in Cherry Hill has the kind of menu where everyone finds something, the bar is solid, and the noise level won't make granddad disappear into his own head. For something a little more local, ReBAR in Collingswood does a Sunday brunch that hits harder than its size suggests — worth the drive from anywhere in Camden County.

If you're doing a backyard cookout, this is the week Paris Caterers in Cinnaminson ((856) 753-5100) tends to get busy. Call ahead if you're thinking catering platters — trays of pulled pork, ribs, or brisket that make it feel like you actually planned ahead.

🥩 Dinner Out

The Chophouse

Gibbsboro, NJ · Steak & Seafood

One of South Jersey's best steakhouses. Make a reservation — this is not a walk-in situation on Father's Day weekend.

⛳ Outdoor Activity

Ramblewood Country Club

Mount Laurel, NJ · Golf

27 holes in Burlington County. Tee times fill up fast on Father's Day — check online or call early this week if you're planning a round.

🍺 Casual Option

Landmark Americana

Cherry Hill, NJ · Bar & Grill

Full menu, solid bar, good for a mixed family crowd. Reliable spot when you need everyone to find something they like.

🛶 Something Different

Delaware River Paddle

Burlington County · Kayak Rentals

Several outfitters along the Delaware offer kayak and canoe rentals. If dad's the outdoors type, this beats any restaurant. Check Bel Haven Canoe and Kayak for summer availability.

If he wants to get outside. The back half of June in South Jersey is historically the best weather stretch of the year — warm enough to enjoy but before the July humidity kicks in. Golf is the obvious call: Ramblewood Country Club in Mount Laurel, Tavistock Country Club, or the public courses along Route 38 in Burlington County all have solid options. If dad's more of a fisherman, the Delaware River from Burlington down to Pennsville is accessible at multiple points and doesn't require a boat.

For the outdoors dad who doesn't golf or fish, the Wharton State Forest in the Pine Barrens is a legitimate hidden gem — kayaking on the Batsto River is peaceful, scenic, and one of those "I can't believe this is 45 minutes from my house" experiences that South Jersey residents underutilize. Bel Haven Canoe and Kayak in Green Bank rents kayaks and canoes and runs shuttle service.

Day trip to the Shore. Cape May, Wildwood, and Ocean City are all under 90 minutes. If dad grew up in South Jersey, a Cape May walk followed by lunch at the Washington Inn hits different than a chain restaurant. If the grandkids are coming, Morey's Piers in Wildwood is still the standard — and Wildwood's boardwalk doesn't charge for beach access, which matters when you're running a group.

Ocean City remains the most family-friendly shore option in the state — dry town, wide beach, and a boardwalk built for a Sunday afternoon with kids in tow. Kohr Brothers frozen custard and a slice from Mack and Manco's is still one of the better $15 investments in South Jersey.

The simple thing most people forget. For a lot of dads, the plan isn't the point. The point is that someone made a plan. A cooler full of his favorite drinks, the right people around a table, and a day where he doesn't have to think about anything — that's the whole game. The restaurant and the activity are just the frame.

Whatever you do this Sunday, make it his kind of day. South Jersey's got the ingredients. You just have to show up with them.
