Every spring, the sky above the Wildwood beach turns into something you have to see to believe.
The annual Wildwoods International Kite Festival draws hundreds of kites — from handmade stunt flyers to massive display kites spanning forty feet — and thousands of visitors to one of the widest stretches of beach on the entire East Coast. The 2026 edition brings the largest international lineup the festival has ever fielded.
Professional kite flyers from across the United States and abroad descend on the Wildwood beach for a multi-day event that blends competition, artistry, and pure spectacle. You'll see precision ballet kite teams flying in synchronized formation, massive rokkaku kites engaging in aerial combat, and illuminated night-fly demonstrations that turn the beachfront into a moving light show after dark.
For families, the event is one of South Jersey's best free spring outings. Kids can try beginner kite flying on designated sections of the beach, watch the pros up close, and explore vendor areas featuring everything from handmade kites to shore-town food. The beach at Wildwood is wide enough that even on the busiest festival day, there's room to spread out.
The Wildwoods Kite Festival is one of those events that reminds you why people have been coming to the Jersey Shore for generations. It's free. It's beautiful. And it's right in our backyard.
