Hurts will play a series Friday, if that, and spend the rest of the night in a ball cap. That quarterback question is the one I keep circling back to. The No. 2 job behind Hurts has been an open competition all camp, and the man who loses it doesn't just lose a title — he might lose the roster spot entirely, because a team this deep isn't carrying a passenger. Whoever throws the ball Friday night in Cincinnati is auditioning in front of 31 other teams as much as this one. In this league, your best game tape is sometimes your résumé for somebody else's building.

Watch the fourth quarter

The receiver room is the other place to watch. The top of the depth chart is locked, but that final spot or two is a genuine scrap, and the tiebreaker almost always comes down to the ugly work — can you cover a kick, can you be trusted to line up right on a Tuesday walkthrough in November.
