Rained Out, Not Called Off: South Jersey’s Caribbean Festival Finds New Life in August

CAMDEN — There’s a particular kind of disappointment that comes with a summer festival lost to weather. You’ve marked the calendar. You’ve told the kids. That’s what happened to the 26th Annual South Jersey Caribbean Festival, one of the region’s most beloved summer traditions, when weather forced organizers to postpone it. This year it didn’t, and rather than shrug and wait until next summer, the people behind it found another date and dug back in. That’s not a small thing. The Caribbean Festival isn’t the only casualty of a stubborn stretch of summer weather. Around the region, the calendar has taken its hits — the Al Jardine and the Pet Sounds Band show was pushed to August 4, and other dates have shuffled as organizers work around the forecast. It’s the quiet, unglamorous work of keeping a community’s summer intact, and most of it happens without anyone noticing.

A second invitation
